Vietnamese Hair Bundles: A Complete Guide for Buyers

Vietnamese hair bundles are human hair sewn onto a weft and sold by weight and length, most often around 100 g (3.5 oz) per bundle, though each vendor sets its own. They come raw, steam-patterned or colored, in straight, wavy and curly. Get those basics straight and the rest, from how many bundles an install takes to which order will sell, gets much easier to call.

What Are Vietnamese Hair Bundles?

A bundle is a length of hair machine-sewn along one edge into a weft, which a stylist then sews onto braids or a wig maker sews onto a cap. "Vietnamese" refers to where the hair was collected and, usually, where it was made up.

Three kinds sell under that name, and they aren't the same product:
  • Raw: not steamed, dyed or permed, so it keeps its natural pattern and a bit of color variation between bundles.
  • Virgin, steam-patterned: no dye or perm, but the wave or curl was set with heat and steam. It's a valid product, just not raw.
  • Colored: lifted and toned (613 blonde, ombre, fashion shades), which makes it processed.
Labels get mixed up often, so check each product page. Our [raw vs virgin hair](/raw-hair-vs-virgin-hair/) post covers the difference, and the colored range sits under colored hair weave.

Types of Vietnamese Hair Bundles

Texture decides what a bundle is used for, and which questions your customers send back.

Straight

Natural straight and bone straight are the easy sell: they suit sew-ins, wigs and colored work, and they show off the cut. Natural straight keeps a little movement, while bone straight is flat and sleek. Ours are listed on the natural black hair weave page.

Wavy

Body wave is the safe middle, a loose S-shape that's easy to wear. Deep wave holds a more defined pattern, so it reads bolder on the head. Wavy hair also draws up when it springs back, so it needs more length on the label than straight to hang at the same spot.

Curly

Curly sells to buyers who want texture without a curling iron, but it generates the most questions. Tight curl can lose several inches once it's worn, and customers often order the wrong length the first time. We'd go heavier on straight and one wave for a first order and add curl once you know your repeat buyers.

Vietnamese Hair Bundle Lengths and Weight

Bundle length is measured with the hair pulled straight from root to tip. A straight bundle labeled 18 inches (46 cm) gives you close to 18 inches on the head. A deep wave or curly bundle with the same label will sit shorter, because the pattern pulls the hair up.

Weight is the other half of the spec. Many vendors sell 100 g bundles, but some go lighter, and weight can vary by a few grams within one order. Longer hair at the same weight is thinner, so a 26-inch bundle looks less full at the ends than an 18-inch one. Compare weights before comparing prices, and use our hair weave length chart to see where each length lands on the body.

How Many Vietnamese Hair Bundles Do You Need?

It depends on length, thickness and style. The numbers below assume 100 g bundles, so scale them if your bundles weigh less.

For sew-in hairstyles

Length Bundles for a full sew-in What changes it
10-16 in (25-41 cm) about 2-3 Thick hair or a full look needs the 3
18-24 in (46-61 cm) about 3-4 Wavy and curly textures lean toward 4

Leave-out styles can often use one bundle fewer than a full sew-in, since your own hair covers part of the head. If you're adding a closure or frontal, three bundles plus the lace piece covers many mid-length installs. Matching sets are on our bundles with closure page.

For wigs

A wig takes a different count than a sew-in. For a wig made on a cap, most makers land around 2-3 bundles at 12-16 inches, 3-4 at 18-24 inches and 4 or more past that, with density as the main variable. A fuller density needs the higher number. Many wig makers buy loose bulk hair by weight instead of bundles, so ask for both and compare the price per gram.

For longer lengths

At 26 inches and up, plan on 4-5 bundles for a full head, and more for very thick hair. Long bundles show their weakness at the ends, which is where double drawn pays off: fewer short hairs means the ends stay fuller instead of thinning to wisps. Ask whether the bundles you're pricing are single or double drawn, because the label isn't standardized and each factory draws its own line.

How to Choose Quality Vietnamese Hair Bundles

You can check most of it yourself in ten minutes.
  1. Weigh a few bundles on a kitchen scale. A few grams of spread is normal; a big gap isn't.
  2. Pull one straight along a ruler and check the length, then look at the ends. Thin, see-through tips mean short hairs were left in.
  3. Check the weft. The stitching should be even, with no loose spots, and a gentle tug shouldn't shed handfuls.
  4. Look at color in daylight. Raw bundles vary a little; a bundle that's clearly another shade is a problem.
  5. Wash one bundle and air dry it. Good hair settles back into its pattern with no heavy coating and no chemical smell.
Then ask the vendor what the label means: raw or steam-patterned, single or double drawn, grams per bundle. Be wary of grades like "12A", which are marketing labels with no industry standard behind them. If a vendor won't answer in plain words, go to the next one.

How to Care for Vietnamese Hair Bundles

Wash a new bundle before you style it, then treat it like your own hair, only gentler. Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, work from the ends upward, and finger-detangle wet hair instead of raking it. Wavy and curly bundles tangle faster, so keep them well conditioned.

Air dry when you can. Heat is fine on straight bundles with a protectant, but steam-set waves and curls can loosen with repeated heat, and raw hair reacts to the product you put on it. With proper care, good bundles can be worn and styled for a year or more, though it varies by texture and how often they're worn. For wearing and washing tips, see how to care for human hair weave.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Vietnamese hair good for bundles?

Yes, in general. Vietnamese hair is usually fine to medium in strand thickness and holds a natural pattern, which suits sew-ins and wigs. Quality depends far more on the vendor than the country, so test one bundle before you buy a lot.

Are Vietnamese hair bundles raw or virgin?

Either, depending on the product. Raw hasn't been steamed or dyed; virgin steam-patterned hasn't been dyed but has been heat-set. Ask which one a listing is before you order.

How much do Vietnamese hair bundles cost?

It varies with length, drawn level, texture and quantity, and wholesale volume lowers the price per bundle. We don't quote a flat number here since it would be wrong for half the range. Our guide to how bundles are priced covers what moves the number.
